Serene Sauraha

After 24 hours of buses, trains, chaos and discomfort we arrived in the delightful little town of Sauraha, located on the edge of Chitwan National Park in central Nepal! We stayed at hotel called Jungle Wildlife Camp that was right next to a beautiful river and had a great view across into the national park.

The first morning here we awoke to find a large group of trained elephants giving rides to tourists and bathing in the river...simultaneously.

We often saw these same elephants walking along the streets of Sauraha as they travelled between the river and the elephant breeding centre, located just outside of town.

We took a horse and carriage ride around town for a bit of sightseeing.

One of Nepal's native plant species, growing wild on the side of the road.
