Karnatka has a hidden gem of a beach, near the small village of Gokarna. Other travellers had been recommending it, so we decided to visit it for ourselves. Gokarna beach is actually the first of several beaches that are found by walking from Gokarna. The path to Cudli beach, our favorite beach here, was a steep path over rocky headlands and through a jungle. We had beautiful views along the way, and also met a friendly Hanuman Langur.
A temple along the path to Gokarna.
In Gokarna, we found a large "temple on wheels", near the center of the village.
Some more shots of the path between Cudli beach and Gokarna beach. This first photo is cleverly framed to exclude the huge garbage piles along the side of the road.
Cudli beach, our home for 5 VERY chilled out days.
Our shack by the ocean cost us a mere 200 rupees per night, about four US dollars.
We were sad when we had to leave Gokarna, but we knew we would return some day. It was the cheapest and least crowded beach we had seen in India. Highly recommended for anyone traveling here.
